Lohardaga is a hub of iron-mining and derives its name from two Hindi words ‘Lohar’ and ‘Daga’ where ‘Lohar’ means ‘ironsmith’ and ‘Daga’ means ‘Center’. Thus, ‘Lohardaga’ means ‘the land of ironsmiths’ or to be more specific, ‘the land of iron mining’.
